Rose quartz has been carved since ancient times. When placed against the skin it is believed to enhance emotional healing and unconditional love. Rose quartz is the pink variety of quartz. It rarely forms crystals and is more often found as a massive aggregate. Its coloration has been attributed to traces of titanium, but it has also been speculated that it may come from iron or manganese. When rose quartz with rutile inclusions is cut into a cabochon, it may display a phenomenon known as asterism, which is the same effect that is demonstrated by a star sapphire. Rose Quartz comes from Madagascar, Brazil, Sweden, Namibia, Russia, Spain, Scotland, California, and Maine.
Rose quartz promotes love, gentleness, emotional healing, and release of stress. Called the Heart Stone, Rose Quartz was used as a love token as early as 600 B.C. and is still an important talisman of relationships. It helps attract new love, romance and intimacy, and in developing a closer bond with family or friends. Rose Quartz is a calming and reassuring crystal, excellent for use in trauma or crisis, including the emotional upheaval of mid-life crisis. It strengthens empathy, sensitivity, and aids in the acceptance of necessary change. It is also an excellent stone for comforting grief.
